June 8, 2010 – C5•6 Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce that it has recently been awarded a SBIR Phase I grant to fund additional research and development.
The National Science Foundation has awarded C5•6 Technologies $150,000 as a Small Business Innovation Research grant to be used to develop research tools with the potential to improve industrial biomass conversion. The grant includes funding for the development of improved enzymes and bacterial strains that will convert complex carbohydrates found in biomass into five and six carbon sugars. The sugars can be fermented into biofuels or numerous other high value products. This grant will enable new high specific activity enzymes previously unknown to science to be utilized for a variety of applications in the future.
